HSBC hires new Global Head of Equity Capital Markets

Published: 2 March 2010

HSBC today announced the appointment of John Crompton as Global Head of Equity Capital Markets. Starting in April 2010, Crompton will be based in London and will report to Kevin Adeson, Head of Global Capital Financing.

Crompton joins from UK Financial Investments Limited (UKFI), the company set up to manage the UK government's investments in financial institutions. As Head of Market Investments, he had overall responsibility for UKFI's engagement with Lloyds and RBS through UKFI's first year of operation and had extensive involvement in securing successful outcomes to all the major negotiations and capital markets transactions with both banks during 2009. As a member of the senior management team, he also played an important role in setting up UKFI in November 2008.

Following Crompton's appointment, Russell Julius becomes Chairman of the ECM business globally. In this new role, he will continue to focus on ECM origination, especially in Asia, and also seek to expand and deepen HSBC's ECM franchise in both developed and emerging markets. He continues to report to Kevin Adeson.
