Opportunities in Global Markets

We offer the following opportunities in Global Markets:

Global Markets – Analyst Programme

As an Analyst in Global Markets your 12-month programme will comprise three four-month rotations, primarily in one of the following disciplines: sales, trading, structuring or origination. You will gain in-depth exposure to a wide range of products across the asset classes, for example: foreign exchange, credit, rates, equities and structured products.

Sales

As an Analyst in sales you will focus on developing and nurturing relationships with clients, communicating general market views and specific investment recommendations on a daily basis. Strong communication skills are essential for this role, as well as competency in accounting and economic analysis.

Trading

The primary functions of a trader are the execution of client orders (often through market-making), and proprietary trading. Traders also communicate vital information to sales, with pre-market indications, initial commentary on results and trading ideas. As an Analyst in trading you will take responsibility for executing client orders and provide regular updates on news and order-flows within the market segment you are assigned to. Strong numerical skills are essential for this role.

Structuring

In a structuring team you will be based on the trading floor and work to develop and deliver customised products and solutions to investors and financial institutions. Structurers are responsible for creating and pricing structured derivatives and assisting in the marketing and execution of transactions. In this role you will develop and maintain models and communicate with, and provide quantitative support to, traders across such aspects as pricing and risk management solutions. To succeed, you need to have very strong analytical/mathematical abilities and an aptitude for logical thinking, problem solving and attention to detail. Communication, marketing and relationship skills are also important.

Origination

HSBC's Debt Capital Markets group takes a holistic approach to providing financing and financing-related services to a broad range of corporate, financial institution and public sector clients globally in the developed and developing world. Our integrated platform comprises origination (new issues and derivatives), structured finance, syndication, MTN structuring and origination and transaction management. We also have a Financing Solutions Group tasked with developing accounting, regulatory and jurisdictionally compliant balance sheet solutions and an Insurance Solutions Group providing strategic balance sheet solutions for insurers globally.

In this role you will have the opportunity to work closely with teams across both Global Banking and Global Markets. You will need to be adept at managing relationships and have the ability to successfully leverage other product areas in the organisation. You can expect to undertake extensive analysis and research into companies and markets and be involved in pitching solutions, briefings and presentations in order to ascertain the best solution for the client. Generating new business is also key to this role, so the ability to see the bigger picture and wider market issues on behalf of your client is important. A combination of strong numerical or technical ability and communication skills are required for this role
